Moving Is An Adventure

Hi, I’m Samantha. I am a creature of habit and ritual. I grew up in a small town on the eastern shore of Maryland where everyone knows your name and what you ate for breakfast. My parents decided to settle down in a nice house 29 years ago, and until this January, that would be the only place I ever called home. In May of 2014 my friends came to me with the possibility of moving out of our town, relocating to Austin, TX. Before long we were calling realtors and looking for moving companies. This was about the time I decided maybe we were biting off more than we could chew. Do we rent a truck and drive it 1650 miles? Do we rent a POD and wait a few weeks for delivery? How were we actually going to pull this off? By the time July rolled around we had a big group ready to load my friend’s possessions into a POD that would be picked up the next morning, and a crew to help with the drive. Soon we were off, driving separate cars packed full with the most important items. After arriving in Austin, it would be another week and a half before the POD was delivered, leaving them with nothing but sleeping bags on the floor and two computers. When it was time to make my move in January, I picked the simple route. I packed my 2001 Ford Escape with everything important to me, and I was off one a three day road trip I was hoping my car would actually survive. Settling down in Austin, and starting a new job at Blue Whale® Moving Company, I have found that about 300 people move here every day and experience the same type of things I went through. I feel like I can understand some of the common stresses people experience, and hopefully help to minimize them for our customers. Moving requires a lot of different wheels to be turning at the same time and hopefully in a way that makes sense. Sometimes it is impossible for everything to run smoothly, and that is when you just have to roll with the punches and do what you can. When life gets crazy, it’s nice to be able to – from my personal experience – remind clients that the stress from moving will pass and soon life will settle down, giving them a reward for their hard work – a new home.
